The pre-dawn hours have always felt Holy to me. The time between the fading away of night and the rising feels tender and vulnerable. I have had some of the most important epiphanies of my lifetime in the delicate space between dark and light.
As recent as just a few days ago, I experienced one such epiphany. I dare say it was a miracle–a radical shift in my perception. In the days since, I marvel that the gift of this “awakening” occurred while I was physically “waking” from a deep sleep. The timing of this miracle was perfect. I realize now that I have been asleep to a Truth and that this Truth was unveiled in those sacred hours before the sky brightened. As my physical body was waking up—so too, was the God in me.
I had a very different idea for the subject matter of this blog, but I have been led to share this epiphany with you. I suspect that many of you have had similar awakenings or that you are on the precipice of waking up just as I have. Nevertheless, when the Holy Spirit nudges us into an awareness that only strengthens our capacities as Teachers of God—we must listen, share the message of the awareness widely, and most important, we must live it.
Journey with me into the scene.
It is roughly 4:30 a.m. on Friday morning, August 17th. The night before, I was listening to a Q/A session moderated by Susan Telford from The Teachers of God Foundation. The guest who was taking questions was Cindy Lora-Renard. Cindy was the featured teacher for the first two weeks of August in The Presenter’s Series. The Presenter’s Series is part of the Teachers of God Foundation’s Transformation Room. (For those unfamiliar with the Transformation Room’s Presenter’s Series, I write about it at the end of this blog). Susan was hosting a Facebook Live session that granted listeners the opportunity to ask Cindy questions about her August teachings. I began watching the recorded version of this Q&A session while preparing for bed. I was very tired. I don’t think that I consciously heard even ten-minutes of the Q&A before falling asleep. I woke a few times to the sound of Cindy’s voice, but then drifted back to sleep. My memory of the Q&A session remains hazy.
At about 4:30 a.m., I felt a nudge of sorts. It was not a physical nudge but an energetic one. Something was rousing me from sleep. Bear with me as this may sound strange, but I knew to the core of my being that this nudge was coming from the Holy Spirit who was gently ushering me into awareness.
Deep inside, I heard a whisper coming from I voice I did not recognize and yet, a voice I know has been with me all along. The voice said:
“Hey…hey…you don’t do anything alone. There is not a single thing you do alone. Not a single thing. In everything you do, you are never alone.”
The whisper increased in volume and in strength as I began to awaken both to the strangeness of what was happening and the profound nature of this simple message.
The voice continued:
“What a relief—right? Wow—take this in. You do not operate alone. Think of what awaits you today—all that you have to do. Think about where you are going today and with whom you will be talking. There is not a single moment before you within which you are alone.”
As you read, you might be thinking—“big deal!” As Teachers of God and as students of A Course in Miracles, we know that we do not walk alone. There is nothing we do outside of the total Presence of God.
But do we really know this?
Think about it—do you really know this?
For me deep knowing grows out of direct experience. When I know something to be True right down to my bones—when I know something to be True at the cellular level—it is because I have had a direct experience of it. This is the miracle part of what happened last Friday morning. I experienced the Truth of these whisperings right down to my bones and at a cellular level.
As one of the central messages of A Course in Miracles, the idea that I am never alone is something I “knew” intellectually, but not “experientially.” Until that early morning awakening—I did not know that I did not know this!
I felt both shaken up and vitally alive that morning. I have been a student of A Course in Miracles for over 25 years. I can talk about the course, teach about the course, and write about the course but I have never had the experience of so fully “feeling” the understanding that I am never alone at such a deep level.
As I lifted myself from bed and placed my feet on the floor, a peace and an ease washed over me and since that morning, it’s a peace that has remained with me. This is not a fleeting peace but a deeply abiding peace.
The whisperings continued as I made my way through my morning routine and I began jotting them down:
“The belief that you do anything alone is the root cause of your fear, your suffering, your depression, your overwhelm.
Take relief in this Truth—take it into yourself very deeply—right into your very cells. Allow your cells to utterly radiate the joy of this truth. You, Christine…do nothing alone.
Contrary to the belief you’ve held–God does not walk beside you. Behind you. Ahead of you. To the left of you. To the right of you. Above you. Below you.
God lives in you.
And in this way, you are God.
Just as Jesus was an earthy expression of the love of God sent to teach us what is possible when we understand that separation is the biggest lie of all—you, too, are a living expression of the love of God. As such, you can take solace in the fact that you think from the mind of God. You see through the eyes of God. Your voice is a unique expression of the voice of God. You live from the heart of God. Anything else, any other Way is an untruth, an illusion, a delusion from which you and so many others suffer.
Ask yourself: what has living from this delusion cost you? How has it made you feel? How has it impacted decisions you’ve made, actions you’ve taken, feelings you’ve felt, perceptions you’ve held to be True?”
Better—what would shift if you lived from what I am telling you is True: you do not do anything alone.”

The message was simple and direct. About two hours after the “whisperings,” I opened to lessons 59 and 60 in the workbook which were my lessons for that day. If you open to these lessons, you will see that they are Reviews and that they are completely aligned with the Holy Spirit’s message to me that morning.
God goes with me wherever I go.
God is my strength. Vision is his gift.
God is my Source. I cannot see apart from Him.
God is the light in which I see.
God is the mind in which I think.
God is the love in which I forgive.
God is the strength in which I trust.
There is nothing to fear.

Two major projects were on my “to do” list that day. The first involved creating a presentation for 9th graders who are starting high school. The presentation is to serve as a source of support for them as they navigate the terrain of their high school years. I admit to having some anxiety about this presentation. I was creatively stuck and struggling to begin.
My anxiety and blocked creativity totally dissolved as I began working on that presentation that morning. What on earth is there to fear or worry about if I don’t do anything alone? I never felt such freedom in creating something with the Truth of the Holy Spirit’s whisperings vibrating within me at a cellular level. I finished the presentation in just under one hour as a clear conduit through which God’s expression flowed.
Additionally, I had been struggling with some anxiety related to creating a day-long training on resilience that I am facilitating in September. Clearly fearful because I was living from the mindset of “you are all alone on this,” everything shifted when I mapped out the training from the mindset of: “What would love have to say about resilience? Is resilience even relevant when living from love and not fear? How might an alternative mindset be the core principal at the heart of this training?” The outline for the day flowed from my heart to pen to page within 15-minutes.

In the days following this epiphany, I have felt deeply protected. I have felt held in the tenderness of God’s embrace. I have felt a renewed sense of relief and strength in the belief that I do not do anything alone. I have become keenly aware of how the illusion of separateness took hold in the first place (this is the subject of a future blog) and I have a different sort of clarity about certain principals in the Course. This clarity is related to ideas within the Course that have long evaded me.
When I first began meditating nearly thirty years ago, I had an experience during one of my earliest meditations that never left me. In what appeared to be a vision of sorts, I saw myself standing face to face with Jesus. We walked toward each other until the Jesus I sensed and the “me” I saw completely merged. In this vision, this merging looked like an auric field of the brightest light. For many years, this vision became my meditative experience. The merging that occurred during the visualization became a place of deep rest for me. Although I did not know what it meant or how it came to me, it felt utterly and deeply “right.”
During one of my meditative breaks last Friday afternoon, this vision came back to me in full force. In that moment, I knew what I could not have known so many years ago. The merging was to teach me that there is no separateness and that accepting this Truth only results in the deepest, most abiding peace. God and I are One.

Feel free to use the visualization described above to nudge your own experiential awakening to the Truth that “you do not walk alone” and to the Oneness of it all. Also, in the days following my epiphany, I have found it helpful to re-read the statements from Lessons 59 and 60 to keep me closely connected to what is True. There is something powerful about writing these statements with your own hand on a note card or in a journal and to look at them periodically throughout the day. If you find yourself “on the fence” about whether or not you do anything alone—these statements of Truth are akin to the “whisperings” of the Holy Spirit that I heard last Friday morning in that sacred space between dark and Light.

I hope that my words are helpful to you. As in all things, I certainly did not write this blog alone!
All of my love to you and my sincerest wishes that each of you will continue to awaken to the Truth of your True nature. Remember: your own awakening and your willingness to awaken helps to heal the entire Sonship.

As I gift to you, I felt inspired to record the “whisperings” of the Holy Spirit as I heard them in the pre-dawn hours of Friday, August 16th. It is here as an mp3 recording titled “Never Alone.” You can use this recording as a gentle reminder of the truest Truth—there is not a single thing you do alone.

What a beautiful post. Thank you so much for sharing. I too have been a student of the course for many years and understand the concepts on an intellectual level. I’ve also had moments of truly knowing the course in my body. I’ve noticed that although these moments are brief, they are powerful and affect my entire day!
Karla, thank you!
This was validating ~ a lovely miracle experience. Your description clarifies the bridge between mental understanding and direct experience, and the deepening that then occurs. I am grateful for these insights when they happen and Love hearing about how they unfold for others. And a sharing like yours often results in inviting a deeper awareness for my mind. Yes, God is in me. Thank you Christine.
endless Love, nicci
